The first Mechanical Circulatory Support Symposium (MCSS) was successfully held in Suzhou on October 28th and 29th, 2018. MCSS was led by Soochow University, co-organized by TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital and Beijing Institute of Precision Mechatronics and Controls.
With the theme of "Embrace the Possibilities", the 2018 MCSS conducted in-depth exchanges on the opportunities and challenges in clinical application of cutting-edge technology research and development for artificial heart, hoping to enhance cross-field communications and discover possibilities for advanced technology.
MCSS was greatly supported by both domestic and overseas experts. Speakers include Richard Wampler, father of contemporary artificial heart; Professor Ulrich Steinseifer, Director of Cardiovascular Engineering Institute of RWTH Aachen University and Medical Engineering Innovation Center of Monash University; and Professor Xiaocheng Liu, President of TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital.

Worldwide experts and scholars from academia, industry, and clinical medicine fields exchanged their research and development, transition, and clinical application experience of mechanical circulation support, and explored possible models for future cooperation in the forum.
Dr. Po-Lin Hsu, the convener of the forum, the founder of magAssist, and also a distinguished Professor of Soochow University, expressed her welcome and gratitude to all the guests on behalf of the organizing committee.

"With the nation's full support, two products in the field have entered the clinical trial stage this year after 20 years of independent R&D and industrialization in China. Other products have entered the pre-clinical trials stage and have made gratifying progress. We believe that we can spark innovation through communications and bring value in life-saving technology to help more patients."

Professor Zhenya Shen, Director of Cardiac and Great Vascular Surgery and Director of the Institute for Cardiovascular Science of Soochow University, mentioned that healthcare professionals are eager for effective tools to save patients' lives. He also emphasized that "All doctors have an urgent need for a mechanical circulatory support system." Professor Shen and Professor Lining Sun, the Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Soochow University both expressed their congratulations and great thanks to the forum for gathering talents to have valuable communications.
